Name: Foothills Brass Quintet
Instrument: Wind Instrument
Website: http://foothillsbrass.ab.ca

The Foothills Brass Quintet is a rarity on today's music scene; a full time chamber ensemble. Each year the quintet brings their delightfully eclectic repertoire to over two hundred audiences from concert halls to mountain tops, from cathedrals to intimate salons. Tours have taken Foothills Brass across Canada, into the USA, and far overseas. Their recordings have received considerable airplay on CBC and many other stations.

Trumpets-- Christopher Morrison (B.Mus.) Since his first professional engagement for CBC in Yellowknife at age 17, Chris has worked as a musician in every province in Canada. A member of the National Youth Orchestra for 2 years, he has also performed with many of Canada's orchestras including 5 years as principal trumpet of the Thunder Bay Symphony. Chris and Rosalee were founding members of Foothills Brass in 1981. In his spare time, he enjoys vintage vehicles and riding his horse across country at ridiculous speeds. Chris plays Yamaha Xeno Trumpets.

Trumpets-- Originally from Chicago, Jay Michalak attended Northwestern University and was an associate member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Jay studied at UBC and was part of the Lyric Brass Quintet, the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, the Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cascade Symphony Orchestra, and the Vancouver Island Symphony. Jay plays Yamaha Xeno Trumpets.

Horn--Rosalee Morrison (M.Mus.) is from Moncton, N.B. She began her horn studies at Mount Allison University, with many summers spent at the Banff Centre for the Arts. She has played professionally with orchestras in Halifax, Winnipeg and Calgary, and has toured with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. She loves the brass quintet repertoire because of its versatility in musical styles, and the challenging interplay between solo and ensemble skills. Rosalee plays the YHR861 and YHR667VS horns.

Trombone-- Ben Perrier (M. Mus) joined the group in fall 2002. Ben was born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario. After studies at the University of Western Ontario and DePaul University, he returned to Thunder Bay to play Principal Trombone with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. Previous to that appointment, he was Principal Trombone of the Kalamazoo Symphony orchestra and Second Trombone with the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra as well as a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. He has also performed with the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra and the National Academy Orchestra. Ben enjoys cycling, Star Trek, Monty Python and making the rest of the group laugh as much as he can. Ben plays Yamaha Xeno Trombones.

Tuba-- Keith Hartshorn-Walton was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and attended McGill University and the University of Toronto, where he received his M.Mus.  His performance experience includes the Hartshorn-Walton Trio, the Toronto Wind Orchestra, the Lydian Wind Ensemble, the Intrada Brass and the Acid Brass.  His other musical interest is jazz piano.  He has also performed on cruise ships around the world.  When not playing the tuba, Keith enjoys spending time with his wife, reading and collecting penguins.
